A Furry Festive Surprise at Avonbridge Care Home

This Christmas at Avonbridge Care Home in Hamilton, the festive woolly jumpers had four legs and cheeky smiles!

Pet therapy visits are a firm favourite of the residents of the home on Old Avon Road. Pet therapy has proven benefits for care home residents, particularly those living with dementia. As well as having a soothing effect and providing a boost to wellbeing, these sessions are great fun.

More used to visits from rabbits and guineapigs, not to mention the home’s own chickens, the Avonbridge residents were surprised when alpacas appeared during their pre-Christmas animal visit!

Spreading Festive Cheer

As a special treat in the runup to Christmas, the team had organised for two of the residents of Netherfield Alpacas to stop by and spread some festive cheer.

Kitted out in seasonal scarves, the furry pair wouldn’t have looked out of place on a Christmas card, posing by the home’s decorations for photos. Accompanied by their handlers, the alpacas greeted residents in the comfort of one of Avonbridge’s lounges.

The alpacas may not have brought a sack of presents, but they did give the Avonbridge family the gift of smiles and laughter. We are sure a repeat visit will be on the cards in 2022!
