Easter Egg-Stravaganza For Hamilton Care Home Residents

An egg-stra special time was had by all in the leafy grounds of Avonbridge Care Home with a day of Easter fun.

Following on from the success of the home’s annual Halloween parade, the Avonbridge team were keen to encourage members of the local community to join residents for a springtime celebration.

Local families and their children were invited to visit the home’s grounds in Hamilton to take part in an Easter bonnet competition judged by residents.

The children followed a parade route past the giant windows of the home’s living areas. Inside, the Avonbridge residents watched, waved and judged the competition while wearing their own Easter bonnet creations.

Hours of Imagination

Many hours of imagination and hard work had gone into the eye-catching designs. This made picking winners a very difficult task indeed!

Kelly O’Neil, the activities coordinator at Avonbridge, said: “We were overwhelmed with the response from the local community. Even though the weather was not on our side, upwards of 40 children and their families came out to participate.”

“One of the biggest things our residents have missed during COVID restrictions is having the local nursery and music group visit. This was always one of their favourite activities. So we were delighted to have some of the children that used to be a part of our nursery visits join us for the Easter event. All be it a bit more grown than the last time they were here!”

Real Life Easter Bunnies

The entertainment for the visitors included a bouncy castle and a menagerie of small furry animals, such as rabbits and guinea pigs from Bunny and Co Pet Therapy.

And, of course, no Easter activities would be complete without the traditional egg hunt through the gardens of the home.

Reflecting on the event, Kelly added: “The children loved it, the parents thanked us for having them and our residents were smiling all afternoon. Seeing the kids run around the grounds and waving at the windows brought them a lot of joy.”
