Kings Lynn Care Home Help Couple Celebrate 65th Wedding Anniversary In Style

Kings Lynn care home Briar House has helped a couple celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary in style.

John Chilvers regularly visits his wife Sheila at Briar House, who is a resident at the home. During a visit to mark the occasion, the team there made sure the setting was extra-special, transforming the visiting room into a romantic setting with roses, scattered petals, and balloons.

Buck’s Fizz was also laid on for the couple, who are both aged 85, to raise a celebratory toast. As an extra surprise, John organised a cake to be made for Sheila to enjoy with her friends at the home.

John and Sheila, who have three children, were childhood sweethearts and grew up in the same street in Terrington, St Clement. John said he was thrilled to spend the important date with his wife. “It was special,” he added, “not only because it was our 65th wedding anniversary, but also because it was the first meal we had shared together in 18 months.”

A Very Special Day

John said: “Both Sheila and I really appreciated all the effort put in by the staff to make the day so very special for us.”

Pat Collins, manager of Briar House, said: “It was fantastic that Sheila and John’s milestone anniversary coincided with a further easing of visiting restrictions.

“Staff always would have pulled out all the stops to help the couple celebrate, but it was extra special as their anniversary meal was the first they had been able to share together after such a long time.

“We love making a fuss of residents, who have something to celebrate, and this 65th wedding anniversary was no exception.”
