Well done to Jo, Jane, and Kate from the Great Horkesley Manor family. They took on an epic 26-mile walk on Sunday to raise money for our residents. We felt for them in the heat, but the scenery around Alton Water in Suffolk was stunning!

Kate and Jo completed the full marathon, and Jane who had a broken foot this time last year managed an impressive 17 miles. So far they have raised £972 for our residents’ fund, with more donations due to come in over the weekend.

Great Hawkesley Go To Nearly Festival

We love making dreams come true at Great Horkesley Manor Care Home.

It had been a longstanding ambition of our resident Pam Morris to go to Nearly Festival at Colchester Recreational Ground. With a bit of assistance from the brilliant FaNs network, who help to keep the residents of Essex care homes connected to their wider community, Pam’s wish came true!

Our staff members Lynsey and Jo helped get Pam ready for the festival. With her make up done and her hair styled as she wished, Pam looked really excited and had a huge smile on her face. Care Home Manager Alison joined the gang, and they all made their way to the festival for the afternoon.

When they arrived, they were given neon wristbands and headed to the food and drink stalls. Pam ordered a pink gin lemonade from the bar, then everyone sat and listened to a variety of different music tribute acts (Ariana Grande, Beyonce and Britpop to name a few). Pam had a great time singing, dancing, meeting people, and having her photo taken with some of the festival staff. After sampling the festival staples of burgers and ice cream, everyone returned to the Manor. Like a true festival goer, Pam has insisted on keeping her wristband on as a memento!

Since then, Pam has been talking animatedly about what a great time she had, and the people and things that she saw. Jo asked Pam if she would like to go again and she replied enthusiastically “Oh yeah!”
