Residents at Mundy House Care Home in Basildon love getting creative with crafts. This week we have gone green with our crafting efforts, turning plastic bottles into flowers. After cutting the bottom of the bottles into a flower shape, residents have been painting them with eye-catching colours. Our new upcycled flowers have really brightened up the Mundy House garden.

We host regular arts and crafts activities for our residents at Mundy House Care Home. These sessions promote cognitive skills and coordination, help reduce stress and anxiety, and are great fun too!

Even the great British weather couldn’t stop the summer fun at Mundy House Care Home last weekend. On Saturday we opened the doors for our annual Summer Fete. People from across Basildon joined our residents and their families for a great afternoon of fun and games.

As well as our incredible cake stall and ever-popular tombola, there was pampering at our massage stall, and the chance to guess the name of our giant bear. We also had some fantastic performances from the wonderful George Hurd choir in the Mundy House garden.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers for making the event a great success, and to everyone who attended for helping us raise over £1,200 for our residents’ fund. The money raised will go towards exciting trips and activities for Mundy House residents in the coming months.

Mundy House Student Makeover

Last week we had some lovely student volunteers along to Mundy House Care Home in Basildon. As part of the local NCS scheme, the students raised over £400 to spend on giving our garden a makeover.

As well as planting new plants and painting the fences, they created a stunning piece of wall art featuring a London Bus and iconic red phone box. The benefits of interaction across the generations is widely reported, and they were certainly evident during the NCS visit last week. While here, the students befriended the residents, got involved in activities and treated them to a good old sing-along!

NCS brings together young people from different backgrounds for a unique shared experience. It is open to 16 and 17 year olds for two or four weeks over the summer holidays. As part of the programme participants take part in a community-based social action project. We are so pleased that they chose to help Mundy House, and all of our residents and staff will miss them greatly.
