Christmas has arrived early for the residents of Nayland House Care Home with their annual Christmas party. Their friends and family joined them for a packed afternoon of entertainment, with games, Christmas songs, and plenty of dancing.

Following a lovely homemade buffet, the grand raffle was drawn. Thanks to kind donations from the community of Nayland and Colchester, we were able to offer hair treatments, afternoon tea for two, a pottery class, and some high street gift cards. This helped us raise £52 to go towards residents’ activities next year.

Residents got to spend some lovely moments with their loved ones, creating memories to treasure forever.

Residents at Nayland House Care Home in Colchester have been getting into the Christmas spirit with a performance from a local school music group. Children from Nayland Primary School, which is next to the home, popped in to sing Christmas carols around the Christmas tree.

Accompanied by ukuleles, the group performed a selection of Christmas classics while everyone clapped and sang along. Residents loved hearing the children sing, and spent the rest of the afternoon discussing their own childhood memories of Christmas.

As Christmas decorations start to appear once again, residents at Nayland House Care Home in Colchester are taking a handmade approach to theirs. Arts and crafts are a popular part of our activities programme, and during the festive period, it is the perfect way to help our residents enjoy the build-up to Christmas.

To celebrate the start of Advent, residents have been painting Christmas scenes onto paper plates. The beautifully decorated plates will form part of our Christmas display, which will become the backdrop for the highly anticipated Nayland House Christmas party on 18th December.

Residents at Nayland House Care Home in Colchester enjoy regular visits from entertainers as part of their activities programme. Recently, local dance duo Air Raid Jive paid a visit to the care home to put on a vintage show.

Dressed in 1940’s themed outfits, they treated residents to a performance of jive and swing dances to classic wartime songs. The whole room sang along while waving Union Jack flags. A few of the residents couldn’t resist getting up to join in with the dances they remember so well.

At the end of the show Gemma, a resident of Nayland House, was presented with a handmade cake from our chef to celebrate her birthday. Gemma was very surprised and got a little emotional as we all sang happy birthday to her.

This year Nayland House Care Home residents got to celebrate Halloween with children from our local nursery. The children joined us for a fun-filled afternoon of Halloween party games and dressing up.

There was party food, disco lights and music, a Halloween themed treasure hunt, and lots of games. To help the children look the part, residents spent a couple of days before the event making Halloween masks for them to wear at the party.

Residents at Nayland House Care Home have put a creative spin on the new planting season. With a colourful springtime display in mind, we have been giving the flower pots for our seeds a personal touch.

Using a range of pens, pom-poms, stickers and colourful tape, residents have been able to create their own individual designs. This has allowed us to combine two of their favourite activities; gardening and crafts.

Nayland House enjoys regular visits from Maggie

Staff and residents at Nayland House have been enjoying weekly visits from Maggie, a rescue dog from Spain who was unfortunately abandoned when pregnant. Abbie brings Maggie to visit Nayland House once a week, where residents have started to build a strong bond with and really enjoy seeing her.
