Nurses' Day 2022 at Larchwood Care Homes

Celebrating the Best of Nursing at Larchwood Care

On 12th of May, Florence Nightingale’s birthday, we took a moment to thank our nursing teams across the country for Nurses’ Day 2022.

Spearheaded by the Royal College of Nursing in the United Kingdom, International Nurses’ Day encourages people to celebrate the incredible work that nurses do to improve the lives of those in their care.

“To help people, to make them comfortable, I am actually blessed to do this!”

Those are the words of Joanna Ballam, staff nurse at Cams Ridge in Fareham in response to the question “what do you love about your job?” This perfectly sums up the dedication and enthusiasm we consistently see from our nursing and care teams.

Time to Reflect

This year we wanted to ensure that our nurses and the teams who support them took a moment to reflect on the amazing difference they make to people’s lives every day. As a small token of our appreciation, gift boxes of Krispee Kreme doughnuts and Millies Cookies were delivered to our care homes with nursing. In addition, many of our homes held their own celebrations to mark the occasion.

Avonbridge

While the team at Avonbridge in Hamilton enjoyed a delicious selection of doughnuts, the home’s residents put pen to paper to share their thoughts on their nursing friends. Resident Gina Boyd wrote: “I don’t know where I would be without the help of nurses. They are smart, amazing and hardworking individuals.”

Cranford

At Cranford in Aberdeen, the nursing team were greeted with chocolates and cards of thanks during their shifts. The home also created a Nurses Day board of thanks with heartwarming notes from residents. One note read: “I have been a nurse myself. Nurses are very important, they do their best. I would do the same job over again!”

Highfield

The team at Highfield near Canterbury came together to spoil their nurses with beautiful bouquets and a host of cakes and doughnuts. Relatives of the home’s residents also shared their thanks on the home’s Facebook page, with messages of thanks like: “You are a wonderful team… thank you!”

Muirton House

At Muirton in Blairgowrie, home manager Catherine presented the home’s nurses with bouquets of flowers. Catherine said: “Thank you to all our nurses and indeed carers who do an amazing job looking after our residents.” Following a special thank you to nurse Amanda Sword and deputy manager Sandra Reilly, the whole team enjoyed a selection of Millies’ cookies on their breaks.
