Postcards of Kindness at Harmony House

Harmony House Care Home residents have really enjoyed receiving and sending postcards as part of the Postcards of Kindness campaign. Care Homes, Schools, Guides, Scouts and other community groups have all been signing up to take part. Residents have received many postcards from members of the public on their holidays, from Brownie groups who want to share their experiences, and even from other care homes who would like to start a pen pal programme.

A few of the postcards have come from as far away as Australia and the USA. Although we are just as happy to receive others from a short distance down the road. To bring another dimension to the conversation about favourite destinations around the world, we have been using the Harmony House big screen to virtually explore each area. This has helped residents reminisce about the holidays they have had over the years, remembering details they may have otherwise forgotten.

We have written 10 more postcards to send out this week and we hope the people who receive them enjoy reading them as much as we did writing them. Harmony House residents are particularly fond of the postcard received from their new friends at Bainfield Care Home. They have enjoyed finding out about Bainfield’s guinea pig and looking to see if we have any flowers in the Harmony House garden similar to those on the front of the postcard.

We hope that some of the other homes will sign up and join in the fun of Postcards of Kindness.
