The Polar Express Brings Christmas Cheer to Swan House

A visit from Father Christmas is a much-anticipated sight in a care home before Christmas, but at Swan House Care Home in Willenhall, the big man in red dropped in to see residents with a bit of extra festive magic!

For Santa’s annual visit this Christmas, the team of elves at the home set to work on making it one to remember. Using an old medicine trolley and a tonne of creative flair, the Swan House team made their own ‘Polar Express’ themed train. Complete with fairy lights, real train sounds and a track around the corridors, Father Christmas’ new ride was ready to go.

Earlier in the day, the Swan House residents and team members were invited to visit the Polar Express ticket office. Here they could collect their ticket for the experience and pose for a photo with the train, the conductor’s hat and a handmade lantern.

All Aboard!

With the scene set and Santa in the building, the Swan House Polar Express set off to spread some festive join around the care home. Followed by a team of caring elves, the train toured the home stopping at residents doors so Santa could hand out Christmas presents and share Christmas greetings.

Along the route, stops included “the North Pole, “The Polar Express Depot,” and the home’s beautiful Christmas displays. A video from the home’s Facebook page shows just how magical the night before Christmas was at Swan House.

With nods to the golden age of railways dotted around the home, such as posters, signs and bells, the event brought back fond childhood memories of steam trains and rail trips. This remained a popular topic of conversation in the home throughout the festive period.
