We were delighted to host an extra special 102nd birthday party for one of our residents at Alexander Court Care Home in Thetford.
Phyllis Manning, who is a great-great grandmother celebrated her milestone birthday surrounded by family, residents, and colleagues at the care home on Raymond Street.
She is the second eldest of 11 children and has always lived her life to the full by keeping herself busy with work, volunteering and raising a family. Phyllis met her husband aged 16 while on a bike ride and they went on to have two sons John Jnr and Lionel.
Phyllis and her family moved around a lot, taking on different job roles such as running a post office, sewing parachutes and caring for elderly people. The family settled in Methwold once again where she began volunteering at a school in the area helping children who struggled with reading, she was often referred to as ‘Little Mrs Manning’. She continued her role long into her retirement before she moved into Alexander court.
Phyllis now lives at our purpose-built residential care home situated in the heart of Thetford. The modern care home has been designed to care for the needs of our elderly residents with large outdoor gardens for them to enjoy all year round.
Alexander Court also has dedicated activities co-ordinators to organise activities and outings such as visiting parks and museums in the area.
Phyllis said: “I’ve always enjoyed keeping busy in my younger years and helping out in the wider community, I think that’s what has kept me going all these years including my wonderful family, they are one of my greatest achievements”
“I would also like to thank the staff at Alexander Court for arranging a wonderful party for me, it was nice to have my family come and visit for the day and celebrate my birthday with them”

I am very pleased we were able to celebrate Phyllis’ birthday as we have followed the relevant guidelines, she has been able to spend it surrounded by her family”
