Atherton Care Home Worker Goes Extra Mile for Residents

A care assistant at the Chanters Care Home in Manchester has gone the extra mile – or rather 5km – in support of her residents.

Nicole Jenkins started with us in 2018, working at our Atherton-based home. She braved harsh weather and high winds to take part in the organised charity run at Heaton Park.

It took the 22-year-old 42 minutes and 11 seconds to complete the course around the park which is just north of Manchester, it is also home to the Grade 1 listed neoclassical 18th-century house, Heaton Hall.

Nicole’s efforts have raised a total of £240, which will contribute to trips, entertainment, and activities for our residents at the home, which is on Tyldesley Old Road.

This may not have been her personal best, but the race took place during Storms Malik and Corrie as they swept through the North of England.

Determined to Finish the Course

Nicole, for whom running is a relatively new hobby in a bid to get fitter, said: “It was a bit of a challenge with it being so windy, but I was determined to finish the course even though I was somewhat slower than my previous times due to the weather conditions.”

Anne Hargreaves, manager of Chanters Care Home, said: “Nicole is a much-loved member of staff, who likes to go the extra mile in her support of our residents, and she has done exactly that by taking part in this race.

“She is to be commended for running in such challenging weather conditions.  Our residents have enjoyed hearing about the race and seeing photos of Nicole in her running gear.”
