Care Home in Colchester Goes Interactive

Our care home in Colchester, Great Horkesley Manor, has installed a new interactive table and it’s going down a storm with residents!

The hi-tech device has apps and games that are designed to support older people. With a wealth of content to keep minds active, hands busy, and help residents reminisce about their past, it has something for everyone.

In essence, the table is a giant tablet, with a video camera allowing residents to video call their family and friends on a much larger screen. The interactive table adds a new dimension to the home’s entertainment offering and is perfect for group activities as well as one-to-one sessions.

The tablet also has access to an archive of images, and residents have been having great fun travelling back in time to see their old homes and holiday destinations.

Bringing Residents Together

The team at the care home in Colchester have also been using the giant tablet to access our digital entertainment platform Oomph On Demand. Through our partnership with Oomph and the new giant screen, the Great Horkesley Manor residents have been enjoying virtual exercise classes, live events and multiplayer games.

Alison Day, home manager at Great Horkesley Manor, said: “The interactive table is proving a particular asset, with residents able to see and communicate with their relatives much better than on a conventional-sized tablet.

“The table’s range of activities and internet access entertains and motivates and helps residents reminisce as well as promoting interaction with staff and other residents. Hi-tech devices such as interactive tables can also help stimulate and engage care home residents including those living with dementia.

“We are continually looking to enhance activities and experiences for our residents and the interactive table allows them to see and chat with family, go anywhere in the world, play games and watch videos.”
