Larchwood Care Homes Abuzz with Olympic Spirit!

The Olympic spirit has certainly captured the imagination of our Larchwood Care Homes over the last few weeks!

It’s been wonderful to see so many residents and team members getting involved in some Olympic-inspired fun. With craft sessions to make medals and scoreboards, and innovative versions of tournament events to promote gentle exercise and movement, there has been something for everyone.

Here’s a quick round-up of the action!

In the Shooting, Team Chanters Were Bang on Target!

The residents and team at the Chanters in Atherton, Manchester have been taking part in their own Olympic-style contests with a different discipline each day. From archery to tin can alley and their shooting contest, the Chanters family have had a great time.

Team Swan House Showed they had Serious Bottle!

Swan House in Willenhall has been keeping tabs on Team GB’s success with their own Olympic scoreboard. Each day a different resident is in charge of adding Team GB’s latest medals to the board. In addition, the home has been getting creative with its own sporting events for residents. The bottle race above was great fun and wonderful for some gentle movement and coordination.

Over in the Pool, Team AVB (Avonbridge) Debuted their Synchronised Swimming Talents

Having held their own torch relay to mark the start of Tokyo 2020, the residents and team at Avonbridge in Hamilton were inspired by Team GB’s efforts in the pool. Having formed their own synchronised swimming team, they were keen to show their skills to the world on TikTok and the home’s Facebook page!

Team GHM Showed they were Relay Good at the Relay!

Meanwhile, at Great Horkesley Manor in Colchester, residents took part in a skittle relay around the home. They smashed their target of getting round in under 3 minutes, with the residents’ friendly banter showing what a sporting lot they all are at The Manor!

This isn’t an Official Olympic Sport… But it Should be!

And finally… we think the Olympic committee should seriously consider adding Giant Kerplunk to the lineup for the next tournament. The residents of Kingsgate in East Kilbride are more than ready to do their bit for Team GB!
