Residents at an East Kilbride care home are taking part in an exciting month of activities by travelling the world on a virtual cruise ship.
Staff at Kingsgate Care Home, based on Glasgow Road, wanted to ensure residents didnโt feel the January blues and were able to welcome 2021 in style. Travelling the world on a virtual luxury cruise from the comfort of the home seemed like the perfect antidote to the colder weather and pandemic restrictions.
Each week will see the staff and residents visit new locations based in as many of the worldโs continents as possible. The first location on the list was the Americas, week two โ Africa, week three โ Asia and the final week โ Europe.
Along the way, everyone will focus on exploring food and drink from various countries. Trying Mexican food is already one of the big highlights of the excursion! The staff will help residents to learn more about different countriesโ cultures, music and dance. Residents will also learn some fun facts about each country with quizzes, films and reminiscence activities.
Stuart Duffy, 78, a resident at Kingsgate care home, said: โThe cruise is very interesting as I like to travel. Iโd like to go on a cruise as I havenโt done that.
โI am looking forward to learning about the different cultures of the countries, and I am especially interested in the week when we go to the Asian countries.โ
Catherine Lawson, 90, another resident at Kingsgate care home, said: โI have never been outside of the UK, so I am really enjoying learning about the various countries and tasting the food and drink.
โI will never get to see these countries in person so doing it this way is just wonderful!โ
