At Avonbridge Care Home, part of the Larchwood Care family, we are delighted to share the exciting news that they have been shortlisted for the “Best Outdoor Environment” category at the sixth annual Caring UK Awards, which celebrate excellence and achievement in the care sector across the United Kingdom.
Our residents at Avonbridge Care Home absolutely love spending time in the great outdoors, and we are immensely proud to offer them truly fantastic gardens. Emma Duffy, Home Manager for Larchwood Care, expresses her pride in the team for their remarkable determination to transform one of our outdoor spaces into an incredible sensory environment for our residents, and then to use it in innovative ways. Their dedication and innovation are undoubtedly deserving of this recognition.
The journey to create this outstanding outdoor space has been extraordinary. The Avonbridge team embarked on a Cold Water Challenge fundraiser, raising an incredible £2325 to turn the dream of a beautiful sensory garden into a reality. This garden is a true masterpiece, designed to engage and delight all the senses, from the visual appeal of a beautiful rockery to the fragrant scent of lavender and the tranquil sound of a serene water feature. It is a multi-faceted sensory experience that uplifts the spirits and creates a profound sense of tranquility for our residents.
But the story doesn’t end with the completion of the garden. At Avonbridge, the team host a variety of events and activities in their sensory garden, always with the residents at the center of it all. From reminiscent trips to coastal Blackpool Pleasure Beach, dressing the garden to create a day of shared memories, to fun-filled experiences, we ensure that every moment spent in this outdoor sanctuary is special.
The team took an icy dip in the river right next to our home in April, showcasing just how far the team members are willing to go to create happiness and joy for our residents. Everyone eagerly anticipates the happiness that this outdoor oasis will bring to all who engage with it in the years to come.
These awards are organised by Script Events in collaboration with the leading care industry magazine, Caring UK, with support from headline sponsor Virgin Money. In each category, up to seven finalists have been selected, and we are thrilled to be among them.
The winners will be revealed at a grand awards ceremony at The Athena in Leicester on Thursday 7th December 2023. This event is a moment when the entire care sector comes together to salute all the great work being done, and we look forward to being a part of this celebration.
