Blairgowrie Care Home Resident Celebrates 100 Years of a Life Well-Lived

At Muirton House Care Home in Blairgowrie, a remarkable milestone was celebrated with great joy and admiration as resident Marjorie Scott marked her 100th birthday. Surrounded by her loving family, Marjorie shared insights into her century-long journey, emphasizing the importance of moderation, service to others, and community engagement as the pillars of a fulfilling life.

Born in Gosforth in 1924 and educated at St George’s School for Girls in Edinburgh, Marjorie’s life has been woven with threads of service and dedication. Following the Second World War, she joined the Voluntary Aid Detachments in London, embodying a spirit of selflessness and commitment to helping others. Throughout her life, Marjorie remained deeply involved with her local Church of Scotland congregation, contributing her time and talents to community projects and events.

Marjorie’s commitment to service extended into her personal life as well. In 1950, she married Raymond Scott, a jute manufacturer from Dundee, and together they built a loving home in Rosemount. Raising three sons—Malcolm, Ranald, and Euan—Marjorie found immense joy in her role as a mother and grandmother. Today, she is blessed with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, whom she cherishes dearly.

A life lived for others is a life well spent!

Reflecting on her century of life, Marjorie offered sage advice for longevity and happiness. “A life lived for others is a life well spent,” she remarked. “I have never been one to overindulge and always enjoyed life’s treats in moderation. My Christian faith has always been important to me, and I have always tried to help others where I can through my involvement with the Church of Scotland.”

Sandra Reilly, manager at Muirton House Care Home, echoed sentiments of admiration and well wishes for Marjorie, highlighting the warmth and love shared during the celebratory gathering. “Everyone at Muirton House wishes Marjorie a very happy birthday,” Sandra expressed. “It’s been heartwarming to see her family here celebrating with her. There’s been such love in the room today!”

Marjorie’s resilience, kindness, and dedication to community serve as an inspiration to all who have the privilege of knowing her. As she continues to grace Muirton House with her presence, Marjorie’s legacy of service and compassion will undoubtedly endure for generations to come.
