The residents of Alwoodleigh Care Home in Huddersfield have enjoyed admiring dozens of hand-made pictures and letters sent in by local school children.
The gifts were created by the children and staff at Harlequin Nursey and Huddersfield Grammar School as part of their Children’s Art Week activities. Children’s Art Week is a national initiative organised by Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education. The initiative encourages schools, galleries, museums, and local organisations engaged with visual arts.
The children sent a colourful array of hand-drawn pictures, as well as hand-written letters. These included stories about home-schooling, their return to teaching and their delight at being able to see their friends once again.
A number of children also took the opportunity to praise the spirit of the home’s staff in their letters. Thanking them for their hard work and effort in keeping their residents safe during a difficult time.
Everyone at Alwoodleigh would like to thank the children at Harlequin Nursey and Huddersfield Grammar School for taking the time to think of us. Residents have enjoyed reading about the children’s daily activities and the kindness and generosity that you have shown really has put a smile on their faces.
In the days after receiving the cards, members of the Alwoodleigh team helped residents create a display board featuring the artwork. This will remain pride of place in the home to remind us all of the kindness of the local community.
