The residents of Alwoodleigh Care Home in Huddersfield have enjoyed admiring dozens of hand-made pictures and letters sent in by local school children.

The gifts were created by the children and staff at Harlequin Nursey and Huddersfield Grammar School as part of their Children’s Art Week activities. Children’s Art Week is a national initiative organised by Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education. The initiative encourages schools, galleries, museums, and local organisations engaged with visual arts.

The children sent a colourful array of hand-drawn pictures, as well as hand-written letters. These included stories about home-schooling, their return to teaching and their delight at being able to see their friends once again.

A number of children also took the opportunity to praise the spirit of the home’s staff in their letters. Thanking them for their hard work and effort in keeping their residents safe during a difficult time.

Putting Smiles On Our Residents’ Faces

Everyone at Alwoodleigh would like to thank the children at Harlequin Nursey and Huddersfield Grammar School for taking the time to think of us. Residents have enjoyed reading about the children’s daily activities and the kindness and generosity that you have shown really has put a smile on their faces.

In the days after receiving the cards, members of the Alwoodleigh team helped residents create a display board featuring the artwork. This will remain pride of place in the home to remind us all of the kindness of the local community.

At Larchwood, we strive to ensure that residents continue to take part in activities and celebrate events that are special to them. We have dedicated activities coordinators who plan a great selection of things to enjoy each week, so there will always be something to look forward to at our homes.

Welcome to the first digital edition of the Larchwood Life Newsletter. With visiting restrictions currently in place at our care homes across the United Kingdom, we believe it is more important than ever to share good news from Larchwood Care’s residents and teams.

At Larchwood Care, we are working hard to ensure that our residents’ relatives and supporters of our homes can stay in touch with the great things that have been happening to keep life for our residents as normal and fulfilling as possible under difficult circumstances.

In this edition of Larchwood Life, you will discover how technology and social media have become an important part of maintaining contact with loved ones while also combatting loneliness during life in lockdown.

Maintaining High Standards of Care

With routine regulatory inspections on hold due to visiting restrictions, great ratings for Larchwood Care Homes have continued to be reported and celebrated by our teams and residents. In this newsletter, you will be able to read about the fantastic standards achieved in the eyes of the Care Quality Commission and the Care Inspectorate.

This edition also provides an insight into how Larchwood Care has been ensuring the health and safety of our residents and staff by sourcing and distributing appropriate PPE to all of our homes.

Community Kindness

Celebrating the kindness of our communities is another big theme of this publication, demonstrating that the general public’s admiration and appreciation of the social care sector reaches far beyond Thursday evening’s Clap For Our Carers event

On downloading the newsletter you will also discover how events such as VE Day, birthdays, and even a hen do have continued to be made special for our residents thanks to our incredibly caring and creative teams.

Alwoodleigh Care Home is proud to be a part of the local community, and on Saturday 10th August we opened our doors so people from Huddersfield could join residents for an afternoon of summer fun.

As well as burgers and sausages freshly cooked on the BBQ, and live music to entertain the crowds, there were also some great prizes up for grabs in the raffle. Thank you to our brilliant Alwoodleigh family, volunteers and visitors for making the afternoon a great success. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
