The Wordsworth House Hair Salon Is Open

At Wordsworth House Care Home, we strive to offer our residents a continuation of life before care where possible. Visiting the hair salon may well be something that most of us take for granted. It is a simple sociable event that can lift the mood, and is something to look forward to. Until now Wordsworth House residents have been visited by professional stylists but did not have a dedicated room for appointments.

Debbie Marples, Care Home Manager, said; “This is something I wanted to focus on. It is really important for residents to have somewhere to go to have their hair done. I wanted the experience to become something to look forward to every week, with drinks and treats added to make it more of a pamper session in a salon environment.”

Shortly after putting plans into action, Wordsworth House residents were let down by an equipment supplier. The equipment ordered did not arrive, which meant that the salon could not be completed. Following an appeal for help on Facebook REM UK Ltd, a Nelson-based professional salon equipment manufacturer, came forward to donate the salon furniture required to finish the project.

Khawar Mahmood, Head of Purchasing at REM UK Ltd, said; “When we heard that the residents of Wordsworth House had been let down, we wanted to help. After making contact with Debbie, the Care Home Manager, we were able to establish what they needed to finish the salon. We have donated the equipment for free, and are really honoured to have helped the residents out.”

The new Wordsworth House Hair Salon opened its doors on Friday 20th September. After the ribbon-cutting, residents Blanche, Annie, Gwen, and Dorris were the first to get a look at their new salon. They joined Wordsworth House staff and representatives from REM UK Ltd to celebrate the launch with cupcakes and a glass of non-alcoholic fizz.
