Regal Companions Join Highfield’s Jubilee Celebration

Residents at Highfield Care Home in Bekesbourne near Cantebury had a right royal surprise thanks to some four-legged VIPs.

To add an extra touch of regal magic to the home’s platinum jubilee garden party, Vicky Butcher, activity coordinator at Highfield, and her friend Sarah brought their corgis along to meet residents and their families.

Juju and Elizah the corgis attracted a lot of attention and fuss and were more than happy to pose for photos.

In addition to the regal visitors, the team at the home unveiled their tree planted to honour Her Majesty the Queen. Donated by local builder and friend of the home Kevin, the cherry tree is officially Part of the Queen’s Green Canopy project. This nationwide initiative encourages cities, towns, communities and businesses to plant trees across the country to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

A Royal Reunion

The Highfield celebration saw residents, their friends and their families enjoy an afternoon together in the home’s stunning gardens for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

Tambara Vaccaro, home manager of Highfield, said: “Seeing our residents and their loved ones enjoying an event like this in our gardens again was wonderful. There was a really lovely atmosphere and the weather was very kind to us!”

Thanks to the kindness of the home’s staff and our residents’ loved ones, the Highfield Platinum Jubilee garden party made £318 for the residents’ activity fund. The proceeds will be used to purchase sensory items to help residents with reminiscence therapy, as well as an interactive dog and cat.
